I have a bunch of weirdos all over the place that I can call friends, so I feel pretty lucky in that department. They keep me on my toes and keep me from being too much of a hermit (which I definitely need). I'm thankful for having people to send outfit pics to and people to trade recipes with and people to get book recommendations from. (And I'm thankful for friends who won't judge me for ending a sentence with a preposition)

Lent Day 45: Friends (mine, not the TV show)
It's Good Friday, folks. so that means TOMORROW will be my last post of Lent. I've (almost) made it!
I have a bunch of weirdos all over the place that I can call friends, so I feel pretty lucky in that department. They keep me on my toes and keep me from being too much of a hermit (which I definitely need). I'm thankful for having people to send outfit pics to and people to trade recipes with and people to get book recommendations from. (And I'm thankful for friends who won't judge me for ending a sentence with a preposition)

Thankful and New Kids on the Block
Today is my birthday! And I think birthdays are really good time to remember what you are thankful for. So here are some things I’m thankful for this year (in no particular order):
1)My sweet new job – Since starting last month I’ve been up to my elbows in the reproductive fluids of common sea stars, played movies in the planetarium, taken 2 trips to Potter Marsh, ridden around Anchorage in a charter bus looking at public art, and learned proper handling of reptiles. While Anchorage isn’t exactly where I’d like to be living, at least I’m doing what I’d like to be doing.
2)Daylight – Alaska has two seasons: winter and not winter, or if you prefer, dark and light. It’s currently light season and when I went to bed at quarter to 11 last night, I didn’t need my light to read. And I think that’s pretty great.
3) This kid (along with the rest of my family, but he’s certainly the cutest)
4)Yogurt Lounge – I recently tried this frozen yogurt place near my house for the first time. You serve yourself and then pay by the ounce. I mixed peanut butter and cake batter frozen yogurt and then put Reese’s peanut butter cups on top. And it was delightful. Next time I’d like to try red velvet yogurt with maybe cookie dough on top?
5)My fabulous friends – Last week when my friends asked what I wanted to do for my birthday, I enthusiastically asked, “Can we go shoot stuff?!” They responded with a resounding yes. Because they enjoy redneck-ness as much as I do. I’ve also gotten some amazing birthday cards, calls, texts, and Facebook posts from my Lower 48 friends. My friends are a bunch of weirdos, and I love them for that.
Here are a few other things I'm thankful for (that don't require explanation) - pork tacos with avocado, cast iron skillets, half price happy hour, Boyfriend by Justin Bieber, knowing how to walk in high heels, chocolate milk, nighttime cereal, leaves on the trees, melting snow, knowing which fork goes with which course, United States Postal Service, and massages
This week's hot jam is Happy Birthday to You by New Kids on the Block. Because what else would it be?

Dinner Parties and The Shirelles
Okay, I know I've been really bad at updating lately. I'm sorry. I'm bad at this game.
So being that most of my friends and I live a significant distance from our families we rarely have an opportunity to attend a big, sit-down, family style dinner. To remedy this problem we have dinner parties. They're not fancy, maybe dinner get togethers is a better name, but they amazing nonetheless. There are few greater things in life than sitting around a big table with your friends and eating food everyone brought. (Usually it's a hodge podge of whatever we had at home, but it always turns out delicious.)
Last night we had a barbeque at my friend Geoff's house. He has a giant table in his backyard, perfect for dinners outside. The sun was shining, it was warm(ish), and we had tons of great food. Here are some highlights:
-Sydney nearly got her hair cut into a mullet
-Dogs running laps around the table
-Trying to figure out how to play the wedding march on 3 accordions, a pan flute, harmonicas, and a fife
-Going across the street to Casey and Kristen's to put their new tent up in the living room (and christening it with hot jams and champagne)
Girl groups of the 60s are in a class of their own. They had great hair, great costumes, and great harmonies. Not to mention their songs covered a wide range of topics, everything from love and breaking up to death. This week's hot jam is Will You Love Me Tomorrow by The Shirelles. It's a classic 60's girl group song, but it's a hot jam because it was the first ever #1 single performed by an all-girl group on the Billboard charts.
Fun Fact: By today's standards it's hardly scandalous, but at the time it did meet some trouble with radio stations for being too overtly sexual.
